Dedicated vs Shared IP Address

Choosing the right IP strategy for your sender reputation and deliverability.

The Basics

When you send an email, receiving servers (like Gmail or Outlook) look at the IP address it's coming from. They use this IP to track your "reputation" as a sender.

Shared IP Addresses

Most small-to-medium senders start with shared IPs. These are IPs used by multiple customers of a sending service (like Amazon SES or SendGrid).

  • Pros: Low cost, "warm" reputation from the start.
  • Cons: "Bad neighbor" risk — if someone else on your IP sends spam, your deliverability might suffer.

Dedicated IP Addresses

A dedicated IP is used exclusively by your Senddera installation. No one else's sending habits can affect your reputation.

  • Pros: Total control over your reputation, easier to troubleshoot delivery issues.
  • Cons: Higher cost, requirement to "warm up" the IP periodically, and higher risk if you send low-quality content.

Which One Should You Choose?

As a general rule of thumb:

  • Choose Shared: If you send less than 50,000 emails per month.
  • Choose Dedicated: If you send more than 100,000 emails per month and have a consistent sending volume.
